Marty White

Meet Marty...

Hey there!  My name is Marty and having you stop by here, getting to play music for you and meeting you at a show somewhere makes me the luckiest man in the whole wide world!

If I haven’t had the chance to meet you before here’s a little bit about me...

? Hometown:  Tomball Texas

? Military: US Marines ‘87-91’

? Influences: Gene Watson, George Strait, Merle Haggard, David Alan Coe, Mark Chesnutt, Toby Kieth, Gary Stewart, Dean Dillon, Jim Lauderdale, Charlie Pride, Johnny Rodriguez, Ronnie Milsap, Neil McCoy, Johnny Bush, Hal Ketchum, Johnny, Paycheck, and so many more...

? Where I Play:  Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma

? My Groups:  The Marty White Band, Marty White's Blue Clear Sky Tribute, Marty and Michael Live

I grew up in Tomball, Texas, graduated high school in 1984 and went off to Stephen F Austin State University.  Turns out I was really good at not going to class so after 2 long years of perpetual scholastic probation my Dad (and sole investor of the Marty Goes to College show) cut my funding and drug my ass back to Tomball.  I knew I wasn’t cut out for school so me and my guitar joined the Marine Corps to start our next adventure.  Semper Fi!

There is an old military saying, "hurry up and wait."  While I was waiting I worked on my guitar playing and wrote poems to my girlfriend back home.  One day it occurred to me that if I added a chorus to those poems I could be a songwriter!  My plan was to buy a Harley when I got out and move to Tampico for 2 years and write songs and then head to Nashville. But I met a beautiful girl and got married. We had our first son and when I finished my tour in 1991 we headed back home to Texas.

We had another son and moved around a lot from Texas to Washington State and back to Texas.  We landed in Wimberley, Tx and raised 2 great boys there.  Unfortunately our marriage didn’t make it be we found out that Wimberley is a magic place with a lot of opportunities to make music and art.  She is an artist and I’m a musician and luckily our artistic paths just seemed to fall into place.  At first I was playing a hamburger joint called the Red Rooster every Friday night for $50 for 4 hours and I was in hog heaven.  That "Rooster" gig gave me enough confidence to start a band so I went and booked a gig that required a band so I would have to scramble to find "hired gun" players.  Nothing like a little pressure to throw myself into action.  Lucky for me, the The Tejas Rodeo Company was kind enough to give me that first gig and I am pretty sure we sucked really bad.  I called the band Marty White & The Hired Guns.  It was a rag tag bunch but something worked because since that first gig I have been lucky enough to play some of Texas' oldest and best known dance halls, open for a few stars and share the stage with some of the best musicians in the business.  Now days you can find me on a stage almost every Friday or Saturday night somewhere in Arkansas, Texas or Oklahoma!  So please stop by often and check the schedule.

I sincerely hope get to meet you somewhere along the way!  Until then I appreciate you stopping by and I truly hope you enjoy the music.  Please click on that little piggy if you'd like to leave me a tip in the old digital tip jar to help fund my music.  Or click here if you'd like to buy a song or two. And, I sincerely thank you for stopping by.

Your friend and luckiest guy in the whole wide world!

Marty
